About TrainersCafé
A Pokémon fan site built and run by one person, for people who like reading the Pokédex too closely.
TrainersCafé started as a better way to look things up and turned into something larger. It is not a wiki and it is not a news site. It is a place to browse all 1,025 Pokémon, dig through the trading card sets, build and share teams, play a few games, and read arguments about what the Pokédex actually says.
What is here
- Dex Files — original writing about the Pokédex. Close readings of the entries people misquote, and the stat lines that do not add up. Every quote is verbatim and attributed to the game it appears in, and every number is checked against official data before publishing.
- The Pokédex — all 1,025, with a query language for searching (type, generation, stat thresholds), comparison tools and stat radars.
- Trading cards — 200+ sets, browsable as binders, with card detail and pricing.
- A battle engine — written from scratch, with real damage maths, abilities, weather, status and switching. Battles are re-simulated on the server before anything is recorded.
- Games — a daily word puzzle, a silhouette guessing game, and Ball Drop, a match-three built on Poké Balls.
- The Café — a small forum, because a site like this should have somewhere to talk.
Who makes it
One person. Everything here — the site, the battle engine, the games, the writing — is built and maintained by me, Kyle. There is no team, no company and no office. If something is broken or wrong, it is my fault and I would genuinely like to know: kylechapman09@gmail.com.
Where the data comes from
Pokémon data comes from PokeAPI and card data from TCGdex, both of which are open community projects. Artwork and sprites are loaded from the PokeAPI sprite mirror. The site adds its own layer on top — the search language, the battle engine, the games, the community stats and the writing — but the underlying species data is not mine and I am grateful it exists.
How it is paid for
The site is free. It carries advertising to cover hosting. There is no subscription, nothing is paywalled, and the coins you earn in the games are not purchasable and have no cash value — they exist to be spent on Pokémon inside the site and nothing else.
Corrections
The writing here makes factual claims, and I would rather fix an error than keep it. If something is wrong — a misquoted entry, a stat that has changed, a misread mechanic — email me and I will correct it and say that I did.
